Elena ENE D.-VASILESCU - Dionysius the Pseudo-Areopagite in Romanian theology

Elena ENE D.-VASILESCU

Prof. PhD University of Oxford, UK

Abstract:

This paper deals with Dionysius the Pseudo-Areopagite’s ideas as known in the Romanian lands. It focuses on their circulation since medieval times to the present. The treatises and letters written by this sixth century author were known in Greek and Slavonic on the territories of today’s Romania since the fourteenth century. Various patristic texts kept the Areopagite and his works central to the Romanian theological landscape. More recently, in addition to Dumitru Stăniloae’s translation of PseudoDionysius's Complete Works and his commentaries on the Syrian’s oeuvre made in various publications, contributions to the reception of Dionysius in Romanian theology have been effected by Gheorghe Anghelescu, Marius Ciprian Cloşcă, Nichifor Crainic, Gheorghe Drăgulin, Nicolae Fer, Vasile Loichiţa, Mircea Nişcoveanu, and Corneliu Zăvoianu.
